Description
Democrats challenge the Trump administration's efforts to withhold $410 billion in appropriated funds and use "pocket rescissions" the Government Accountability Office deems illegal. This represents fundamental conflict over separation of powers and Congress's constitutional "power of the purse".
Centercratic Position:
Restore constitutional balance of powers. Prohibit presidential impoundment of appropriated funds. Strengthen congressional oversight mechanisms. Support tripartisan cooperation on budgets and nominations. Oppose both executive overreach and congressional obstruction.
Republican Position:
Support expanded executive authority for Trump administration including withholding appropriated funds through "pocket rescissions".
